    16 Years of Alcohol

If you’ve got Netflix, give it a watch. It’s got some ‘meh’ reviews, but I enjoyed it.

Factory Girl – Sienna Miller plays Edie Sedgwick, adored muse to Andy Warhol. She fell down a slippery slope of speed, heroin, and booze. A privileged yet traumatic upbringing caused some damage and the 60s nyc scene pushed her over the edge. No happy ending here, but a great movie for sure!
(Just look past the fact that hayden christiansen is supposed to be bob dylan :P)

Oh and ‘country strong’ is newer..was ok..it does really show how distanced our loved ones can become when they just can’t take it anymore. The bird in the box really gets me..aww 🙂

Theres also ‘Somewhere,’ about a famous drunk actor..its interesting to me how many hollywoods actors are used as entertaining puppets no matter the cost to them personally…but i guess that really could be said about all sorts of people.
It’s a movie by Sofia Coppola..if you’re familiar with her style, the pictures tend to be understated and more about scenery than dialogue. So if you’re into that, then go for it 🙂

In Pay it Forward, Helen Hunt is an alcoholic…the entire movie doesn’t revolve around it, but it is pretty inspirational in general…Looking at it from an alcoholic perspective, I think it would be motivational to see how far she comes as well.

Clean & Sober with Michael Keaton is a great one… Less Than Zero starring Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorites as well

The Matrix is a great metaphor for recovery.

Neo is living in what he thinks is the “real world”, but comes to see that it’s all an illusion.

The “Agents” in the movie represent his addiction – trying to keep him from working his program.

Morpheus, is, of course, his sponsor.

Try watching the movie from that perspective and you’ll see it in a whole new way.

‘Midnight Express’–an oldie to be sure–is pretty brilliant. The star-Brad Davis-was an IV druggie who died of AIDS, I believe.

‘Sid and Nancy’–an oldie as well–made some good points.

    ‘The Doors’ did also.

And all of these are hugely entertaining, if you can find them.

The only one I can think of is ” Basketball diaries” with Leanardo Dicapprio and Mark Wahlburg.

I watched this movie at 2 AM one night , cracked out on speed pills and unable to sleep. That movie really freaked me the hell out…. but in the end , it’s good and sad all at the same time.
