This is a good one about recovery. Seems strange coming from Ozzy.

    DREAMER
    By: Ozzy Osbourne

Gazing through the window at the world outside,
wondering will mother earth survive hoping that mankind will stop abusing her sometime?
After all there’s only just the two of us and here we are still fighting for our lives
watching all of history repeat itself time after time.

I’m just a dreamer, I dream my life away
I’m just a dreamer, who dreams of better days

I watch the sun go down like every one of us,
I’m hoping that the dawn will bring a sign,
a better place for those who will come after us, this time.

I’m just a dreamer, I dream my life away
I’m just a dreamer, who dreams of better days.

You’re higher power maybe God of Jesus Christ,
it doesn’t really matter much to me,
without each others help there aint no hope for us,
I’m living in a dream of fantasies,
    oh yeah yeah yeah.

If only we could all just find serenity,
it would be nice if we could live as one,
when will all this anger, hate and bigotry, be gone.

I’m just a dreamer, I dream my life away, today
I’m just a dreamer, who dreams of better days.
oh yeah I’m just a dreamer,
    who’s searching for the way,
    today I’m just a dreamer,
    dreaming my life away,
    oh yeah, yeah yeah!

This is the lyrics to “Hand of Doom”
    Black Sabbath.

    Whatcha gonna do?
    Times caught up with you
    Now you wait your turn
    You know theres no return

    Take your written rules
    You join the other fools
    Turn to something new
    Now its killing you

    First it was the bomb
    Vietnam napalm
    Disillusioning
    You push the needle in

    From life you escape
    Realitys that way
    Colours in your mind
    Satisfy your time

Oh you, you know you must be blind
    To do something like this
To take the sleep that you dont know
Youre giving death a kiss, oh, little fool now

Your mind is full of pleasure
    Your bodys looking ill
    To you its shallow leisure
    So drop the acid pill,

    Dont stop to think now

Youre having a good time baby
    But that wont last
Your minds all full of things
    Youre living too fast

    Go out enjoy yourself
    Dont bottle it in
You need someone to help you
To stick the needle in, yeah

    Now you know the scene
    Your skin starts turning green
    Your eyes no longer seeing
    Lifes reality

    Push the needle in,
    Face deaths sickly grin
    Holes are in your skin,
    Caused by deadly pin

    Head starts spinning round
You fall down to the ground
    Feel your body heave
    Deaths hands starts to weave

    Its too late to turn
    You dont want to learn
    Price of life you cry
    Now youre gonna die!

Here is another one. “Let her cry” by Hootie and the Blowfish.

She sits alone by a lamppost
Tryin’ to find a thought that’s escaped her mind
She says there’s the one I love the most
    but strifes not far behind
    She never lets me in

Only tells me where she’s been
When she’s had too much to drink
    I say that I don’t care
I just run my hands throuh her dark hair then I
Pray to god you gotta help me fly away

    And just let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
    Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
    Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
    Let her be
    Let her be

    [solo]

This morning I woke up alone
Found a note standin’ by the phone
Sayin’ baby maybe I’ll be back some day
I wanted to look for you
You walked in I didn’t know just what I should do so I
Sat back down, had a beer, and felt sorry for myself

    Sayin’ let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
    Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
    Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
    Let her be
    Let her be

    [solo]

Last night I tried to leave
Cried so much I could not believe
She was the same girl I fell in love with long ago
She went in the back to get high
I sat down on my couch and cried
Whoah, my love, please help me won’t you hold my hand

    Let her cry
If the tears fall down like rain
    Let her sing
If it eases all her pain
    Let her go
Let her walk right out on me
And if the sun comes up tomorrow
    Let her be
    Oh, oh, oh

Ok Here is one more. I got carried away with these posts. But these songs have all helped me at one time or another.
    “She Talks To Angels”
    The Black Crowes

She never mentions the word addiction
    In certain company
Yes, she’ll tell you she’s an orphan
    After you meet her family

She paints her eyes as black as night now
    Pulls those shades down tight
Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain comes
The pain gonna make everything alright

    Says she talks to angels
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name

She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy
And the cross is from someone
She has not met, not yet

    Says she talks to angels
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name

    She don’t know no lover
    None that I ever seen
And to her that ain’t nothing
But to me it means, means everything

She paints her eyes as black as night now
She pulls those shades down tight
Oh yeah, there’s a smile when the pain comes
The pain gonna make everything alright
    Alright yeah yeah

    She talks to angels
Says they call her out by her name
Oh yeah, angels call her out by her name
Oh woah oh, angels call her out by her name
Oh oh, she talks to angels
They call her out, yeah yeah, call her out
    Don’t you know nothing
Call her out by her name

    Johnny Cash – Hurt

    I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
    I focus on the pain
    The only thing that’s real
    The needle tears a hole
    The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
    But I remember everything

    [Chorus:]
    What have I become
    My sweetest friend
    Everyone I know goes away
    In the end
And you could have it all
    My empire of dirt
    I will let you down
    I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
    Upon my liar’s chair
    Full of broken thoughts
    I cannot repair
    Beneath the stains of time
    The feelings disappear
    You are someone else
    I am still right here

    [Chorus:]
    What have I become
    My sweetest friend
    Everyone I know goes away
    In the end
And you could have it all
    My empire of dirt
    I will let you down
    I will make you hurt

    If I could start again
    A million miles away
    I would keep myself
    I would find a way

    Aerosmith – Amazing

I kept the right ones out
And let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins
There were times in my life
    When I was goin’ insane
    Tryin’ to walk through
    The pain
    When I lost my grip
    And I hit the floor
Yeah, I thought I could leave but couldn’t get out the door
I was so sick and tired
    Of a livin’ a lie
    I was wishin’ that I
    Would die

    It’s Amazing
With the blink of an eye you finally see the light
    It’s Amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you’ll be alright
    It’s Amazing
And I’m sayin’ a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

That one last shot’s a Permanent Vacation
And how high can you fly with broken wings?
    Life’s a journey not a destination
And I just can’t tell just what tomorrow brings

You have to learn to crawl
    Before you learn to walk
But I just couldn’t liten to all that righteous talk
I was out on the street,
    Just a tryin’ to survive

    I didn’t see it mentioned… but I like Carrie Underwood’s “Wasted”

and I’m not sure it is about recovery or addiction but

Heartaches of a fool (willie nelson) is a song I have drawn upon… especialy the line…
Wealth is happiness and love, sent from heaven above! And the fires of ambition will burn.

    King Heroin by James Brown

…..I came to this country without a passport
Ever since then I’ve been hunted and sought
My little white grains are nothin’ but waste
Soft and deadly and bitter to taste
I’m a world of power and all know it’s true
Use me once and you’ll know it, too
I can make a mere schoolboy forget his books
I can make a world-famous beauty neglect her looks
I can make a good man forsake his wife
Send a greedy man to prison for the rest of his life
I can make a man forsake his country and flag
Make a girl sell her body for a five-dollar bag
Some think my adventure’s a joy and a thrill
But I’ll put a gun in your hand and make you kill
In cellophane bags I’ve found my way
To heads of state and children at play
I’m financed in China, ran in Japan
I’m respected in Turkey and I’m legal in Siam
I take my addicts and make ’em steal, borrow, beg
Then they search for a vein in their arm or their leg
So, be you Italian, Jewish, Black or Mex
I can make the most virile of men forget their sex
So now, no, my man, you must (you know) do your best
To keep up your habit until your arrest
Now the police have taken you from under my wing
Do you think they dare defy me, I who am king?
Now, you must lie in that county jail
Where I can’t get to you by visit or mail
So squirm — with discomfort — wiggle and cough (hack!)
Six days of madness, hah! You might throw me off
Curse me in name! Defy me in speech!
But you’d pick me up right no if I were in your reach
All through your sentence you’ve become resolved to your fate
Hear now! younng man and woman, I’ll be waitin’ at the gate
Don’t be afraid, don’t run! I’m not chased
Sure my name is Heroin! You’ll be back for a taste
    Behold, you’re hooked!
Your foot is in the stirrup
    And make — haste!
    Mount the steed!
    And ride him well
For the white horse of heroin
    Will ride you to Hell!
    To Hell!
    Will ride you to Hell!
    Until you are dead!
    Dead, brother! Dead!
This is a revolution of the mind
    Get your mind together
    And get away from drugs!
    That’s the man!
    Back! Back
