I enjoy Keith Urban’s Love Somebody…….It was a feel good song for me and one I listened to often when I first got sober. I truly love this song as it helped me in the dark days before I got sober and what I think of when I reflect on the angel in my life – my spouse who believed in me when no one else did and took a chance a pretty broken person because he knew inside I was there……I just needed help in getting this monkey off my back.

Sry for the ramble but it is true. I am blessed.

I didn’t read through the whole thread so these may be already listed.

    “Come Away from It”
    by Ani Difranco

    come
    come away
    come away from
    come away from it

    next to the glass ashtray
    in a little plastic baggy
    is a bitter rock remedy
    really good stuff
but i take offense to the fact
    that you’re so hell bent
are you trying to tell me this world
    just isn’t beautiful enough?

do you want to get off?
    is this your stop?
do you gotta have a tripledecker super fudge sundae
with a godd—n cherry on top?
i mean, what makes you so lavish
    that you can afford
to spend every sober moment feeling angry and bored

    why don’t you come
    come away
    come away from it
    why?

we used to hold hands down
    those unfamiliar streets
you used to take me diving
    into the watery blue deep
but now you’re trying to find every tiny treasure
    every shiny penny of pleasure
    satisfy every selfish purpose
before you swim back up to the surface

    why don’t you come
    come away
    come away from it

you think that i just don’t like it anymore
but i’ll tell you what i don’t like
i don’t like that i had to put the training wheels
    back onto your bike
and i don’t like the extravagance
or the way you taste when i kiss you
i don’t like being left alone
baby, don’t you think i miss you?

This one’s by the band Against Me. It reminds me so much of me it’s kinda creepy.

    “Thrash Unreal”

If she wants to dance and drink all night,
well, there’s no one that can stop her.
She’s going until the house lights come up,
or her stomach spills onto the floor.
This night is going to end
when we’re damn well ready for it to be over.
    Worked all week long, now,
the music is playing on our time.
Yeah we do what we do to get by,
and then we need a release.

You get mixed up with the wrong guys,
you get messed up on the wrong drugs.
Sometimes the party takes you places that you didn’t really plan on going.
When people see the track marks on her arms,
    she knows what they’re thinking
She keeps on working for that minimum.
As if a high school education gave you any other options.
They don’t know nothing about redemption,
They don’t know nothing about recovery.
    Some people just aren’t
the type for marriage and family.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter’s going to grow up to be a junkie,
No mother ever dreams that her daughter’s going to grow up to sleep alone.

She’s out of step with the style,
she don’t know where the actions happening.
You know the downtown club scene ain’t nothing like it used to be
You’ll reach a point where there’s not a lie in the world
that you could use to make the boys believe you’re still in your twenties.
You know, they just keep getting younger, don’t they, baby?
She’s not waiting for someone to come over and ask for the privilege.
She can still hear that Rebel Yell just as loud as it was in 1983.
There ain’t no Johnny coming home to share a bed with her,
    And she doesn’t care.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter’s going to grow up to be a junkie.
No mother ever dreams that her daughter’s going to grow up to sleep alone.

Though its not about addiction or recovery I find that the song “the middle” by Jimmy Eat World is inspirational in my recovery. The whole, “it just takes some time” and “everything will be alright” and “don’t write yourself off yet”, it brings me up when I’m not feeling to hot.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Soul to Squeeze. The first lines of the song say it all.

    Rhyme and Reason
    Dave Matthews Band

Oh well oh well so here we stand
    But we stand for nothing
My heart calls to me in my sleep
Now can I turn to it
Cause I’m all locked up in this
Dark place — and I do not know
    I’m as good as dead
My head aches — warped and tied up
I need to kill this pain

My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m dead and gone
My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m six feet underground

    How long I’m tied up
My mind in knots — My stomach reels
In concern for what I might do or
    What I’ve done
It’s got me living in fear
Well I know these voices must
    Be my soul
    I’ve had enough
    I’ve had enough
    Of being alone
I’ve got no place to go

My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m dead and gone
My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m six feet underground

    “In my grave
Lying wired shut and quiet in my grave

    Leave me here
Leave it to me to waste here”

So young here I am again
    Talking to myself
    A T.V. blares
Oh man oh how I wish I didn’t smoke
Or drink to reason with my head
    But sometimes this thick confusion
Grows until I cannot bear it at all
    Needle to the vein
    Needle to the vein
Take this needle from my vein my friend

My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m dead and gone
My head won’t leave my head alone
And I don’t believe it will
    ‘Til I’m six feet underground

    “In my grave
    Lying bored in my grave”

    Leave me here
Leave it to me to waste here”

    Reason — my reason
Take my head off this terror
    I’m fearing I’ll come back
    I’ll see
    My mind’s all wiped clean
    The Needle
    Make my great escape
I’ll see the cold in time
    My head leaves me behind
    Let me fade away

    I seem caught in time
    My head leaves me behind
    Body falls cold
    And I see Heaven
